As I begin this post, I am sitting in my office waiting for a wedding – 2 hours to go. The wedding party, friends, family are nearly frantic attending to last minute details – trying to insure that the youngest of the wedding party remain clean and pressed at least until after the wedding.
Men who came to rehearsal very casual are all dressed in their finest tuxes. The ladies have had their hair done and some are still fussing with it to get it perfect. There is a rush to get pictures taken before guests arrive.
The wedding was yesterday but as I sat and waited several thoughts ran through my mind that I did not have the time to write because of numerous questions related to those last minute preparations.
I was reminded that as Christ-followers, we too are preparing for a wedding. As the bride of Christ we are readying ourselves for that wedding supper. Just as there was a rehearsal for the wedding at the church this week, there is a sense in which each act of worship is a rehearsal for a grand time of worship around the throne of God.
Every time we acknowledge sin – confessing and repenting of it, it is as if we are doing that last bit of primping in preparation for the coming of the Groom.
The wedding that occurred yesterday had a set time. Everyone knew when the bride and groom were to arrive on the scene.
We don’t know the time or the season that the Groom will come for His bride, the Church. And so we strive to live in constant readiness – anticipation – knowing He is coming.
